Two wheelsets, one bike: make the swap repeatable
Two complete wheelsets can make a road-to-gravel change convenient. The convenience disappears if every swap requires a new brake adjustment or leaves the gears noisy. Have both sets fitted and checked as a pair, rather than treating the second as a spare parcel.

Write two complete parts lists
For a GRARO, both sets need the correct axle/end-cap configuration, rim/tyre approval and suitable rotors. Use mutually compatible cassette specifications for the same drivetrain and verify the chain setup for any gearing change. Different cassette ranges can create another compatibility and sizing job even when the freehub is correct.

Fit and test A, then B, then A again
Have the workshop install each set correctly and check brake clearance and shifting. Returning to the first set tests whether the swap is repeatable. Differences in hub and rotor positioning can matter even with matching nominal standards. Park Tool’s brake diagnosis explains why correct wheel seating comes before alignment. Use the wheel-seating and rub checklist before changing the caliper position.
If A is quiet, B rubs, and A is quiet again without moving the caliper, record that pattern for the workshop. It points to a difference to investigate in B’s installation or wheel/rotor assembly; it does not identify a spacer or prove that the caliper is aligned for both sets. Diagnose shifting separately: a quiet brake says nothing about cassette position.
If correction requires spacers, use only a documented solution permitted by the relevant manufacturers and installed by a competent assembler. Do not stack arbitrary washers under a rotor or cassette to make a noise disappear. Secure mounting and thread engagement remain essential. Park’s caliper-alignment guide is not approval for a rotor or cassette spacer on your hubs.
Label the settings you will forget
Keep tyre pressures and cassette/rotor codes with each set. Practise wheel removal, correct axle tightening and the stationary brake check. After each swap, verify secure wheels, reliable brakes and normal shifting before the ride. If the shop cannot achieve a supported repeatable setup, include the adjustment effort in your decision about whether two sets are worth buying.
