Buying a Chinese bike in the US or Canada: where to order and what to check

The tempting frame price is only the opening number. A good US or Canadian purchase starts with the actual seller, dispatch country and support arrangement—and ends with a bike that fits, with no mystery invoice waiting beside the box.

A red panda checks a plain delivery box with a paperwork folder beside a road bike at an open garage.

Ten brands, several different ways to buy

Start with the official seller, then identify the item. Winspace and SEKA publish dealers in both countries; ICAN lists specific US-warehouse products; LightCarbon and Dengfu take detailed manufacturer inquiries. The route can change even within one brand when the frame size or destination changes.

Ask for two comparable offers where possible: direct with the exact warehouse and a listed dealer with assembly. Record the seller on the invoice, the return address and the actual frame package. The ten links below are buying-route leads, not a sales ranking. The routes were first researched September 22, 2026; buying routes and import guidance were reviewed October 2, 2026. Check stock when ordering.

  • Winspace: Brand shop or listed dealer; ask which warehouse supplies the exact order.
  • Elves: Brand or country distributor; get a paint and production quote.
  • YOELEO: Global or regional store; warehouse and tax terms depend on the order.
  • ICAN: Direct shop with selected regional stock; verify the actual SKU.
  • LightCarbon: Contact the manufacturer for an itemized frame and shipping quote.
  • SEKA: Start with the current global dealer directory.
  • Tavelo: Brand shop or current dealer page; confirm the regional seller, exact generation and stock.
  • PARDUS: Check the global dealer network for your country.
  • VeloBuild: Review production and cancellation terms before paying, and confirm the exact configuration in writing.
  • Dengfu: Direct manufacturer inquiry; confirm model, stock and package.

For US buyers: retire the old $800 shortcut

A repeated forum shortcut says an imported frame below $800 is duty-free. CBP says that duty-free de minimis treatment was suspended on August 29, 2025. The applicable charges still depend on the actual goods, origin and import route. A buyer’s 2022 invoice cannot price your 2026 shipment.

Ask for a quote to your address stating who pays duties, taxes, brokerage and any carrier request. A US warehouse is useful only for the SKU actually stocked there. ICAN’s US wheel collection does not prove that an ICAN frame is also in US stock.

Keep the commercial description and value truthful. If a seller suggests labeling a bike a gift or understating its price, do not use that quote as a cost comparison.

For Canadian buyers: a US store is still across a border

Canada needs its own quote to your postal code. CBSA explains how duties and taxes are determined for mail or courier shipments; its payment guidance covers the charges collected on arrival. Ask the carrier to separate tax, duty and its own brokerage fee. YOELEO’s prepaid-tax country list names the United States, not Canada; ask for the Canadian terms rather than assuming the US offer applies.

The 2026 tariff chapter has separate entries for bicycles and parts. A China-origin frame sent from a US warehouse does not automatically gain US-origin treatment. Check the actual declaration and current measures with the carrier rather than borrowing a US checkout total.

Winspace and SEKA list Canadian dealers. Ask one for a matched build and support quote; the existence of a listing is not proof of stock.

Read owners for the questions they reveal

A US SEKA owner writing in February 2024 described a warranty experience positively. An earlier SEKA buying thread described a long wait through a different seller. Different years and sellers make those compatible stories, not a brand-wide pass or fail.

For a stock example, a GRARO owner writing in June 2025 said the frame shipped from China after EU stock ran out. That is a European example of why the warehouse matters, not a US or Canadian delivery forecast. For your order, ask for the warehouse in writing. A few good questions are more transferable than another person’s delivery date.

Before choosing direct, find a workshop willing to build or inspect the frame and quote the work. Ask the seller who supplies a spare hanger, seatpost wedge, headset cover and any proprietary spacers. Those parts are much easier to discuss while everyone is still enthusiastic about the sale.

Choose with a finished-bike budget

Compare three finished totals using the same useful build. Leave unquoted charges blank. The frame with the lowest sticker price may still win, but you should know what has to happen before you can ride it.

If direct wins, put the generation, size, cockpit dimensions, included hardware, dispatch warehouse and claim contact on the invoice. Confirm a workshop can assemble that exact package before you commit to it.
