Buying headset bearings: photograph the markings, not just the bike
“An integrated headset bearing” is not enough information for a replacement. Similar-looking bearings can have different dimensions and contact angles. Get the identity from the drawing or the old bearing before the shop orders one.

Record the bearing and its position
Ask for upper/lower bearing references from the exact frame’s headset drawing. If a workshop removes the old bearing, photograph its markings and record outer diameter, inner diameter, height and contact-angle specification. Keep upper and lower records separate. A nominal headset size does not identify every cartridge.
A reply giving only the outer diameter leaves the order incomplete. The inner and outer contact angles describe different mating surfaces: the centering cone or crown race on one side, and the frame or cup on the other. Ask for the missing dimensions and both angles against the drawing before accepting a substitute. Park Tool’s standards guide explains this distinction.
The surrounding parts matter too
The LCR018-D illustrates why headset service can involve an integrated cockpit and hoses. Check the matching crown-race interface, compression ring, cover and spacers rather than substituting a bearing in isolation. Park Tool’s headset guide explains the system’s assembly principles; the frame/cockpit instructions govern your actual parts.
If replacing the bearing requires disconnecting a brake hose, include that service in the quote before dismantling. Do not force the bearing past hoses or pull the cockpit against a hose that is too short.

Buy a confirmed spare, then keep the label
Ask the supplier to confirm the replacement against the recorded dimensions and frame drawing. Keep the exact part reference with the bike so the next service is faster. When several parts arrive in a headset kit, label what each belongs to; the remaining ring is not automatically an optional extra. Have steering play or binding checked before riding.
Keep this record alongside the bottom-bracket order sheet; the bearing’s identity and the frame’s interface are separate fields.
